IN SEASON RIGHT NOW: Dahlias are at peak through early October, and the four-week Dahlia Share is built entirely from blooms hand-harvested on the farm. After that come the fall wreaths — craspedia, gomphrena, strawflower, nigella, magnolia branch, dried grass. Ask Lynn what was cut that morning!
Q: What makes the Green Meadows unique?
I’ve been running Green Meadows here at the Barn Shops for more than three decades, so I think a big part of what makes us special is the relationships we’ve built over the years. We’ve had customers come to us for flowers for weddings, birthdays, holidays, and all kinds of moments in their lives, and then we get to see their families come back too. We’ve always tried to keep it personal.
Q: What’s changed about the Barn Shops village around you?
A lot! When I first started here, the Barn Shops had more of an old-fashioned artisan village feel, with galleries, craftspeople, and little specialty shops. I remember when the Great Pumpkin Carve was right here near us, with the pumpkins displayed around the Chadds Ford Gallery, before it grew and moved down the road. We also had the holiday tree lighting across the street and other little traditions that really brought everyone together. Over the years, businesses have come and gone and Route 1 has gotten much busier, but it has been really nice to see new energy coming back into the Barn Shops. There are younger entrepreneurs opening businesses, more events being held here, and new reasons for people to come spend time at the village. I think that mix of longtime businesses and a new generation of owners is a really positive thing. There are also new trails and pedestrian connections being built around Chadds Ford, and the new preserve next to the Barn Shops will give people another reason to get out, walk around, and explore the area.
Q: What do you hope it becomes?
I really just want Green Meadows to keep growing without losing what has made it special. I love that we’re growing more of our own flowers here in Chadds Ford and supporting other local growers. I’d like to keep building on that while still being the kind of shop where people can come in, talk to us, and find something beautiful.
Q: One thing people might not know
Probably how much history there is here. There have been so many different businesses, traditions, events, and people connected to the Barn Shops over the years, and when you’ve been here as long as I have, you really get to see how much the area has changed while still keeping its character. Green Meadows has been able to grow right alongside it, and that history has become a big part of our own story too. I’ve watched the Barn Shops change for more than three decades, and there are so many memories tied to this little corner of Chadds Ford
